Read With Us This Father's Day

Here at Intellicare, we understand the importance of family.  As we work alongside of the team at Fraserview Care Lodge, we see how love brings friends and family members back time and time again.  This Father’s Day, we wanted to recommend a few stories for those of you either suffering from or who are children of a father with Alzheimer’s or dementia.  Of course, these biographies are sure to touch the hearts all readers, as we take a day to appreciate the fathers and father figures around us.  Star ratings from GoodReads.com and various reviews will be included.  Here’s to immersing ourselves in a day of love, reminiscence, and gratitude.  Happy Father’s Day from Intellicare.

Making a difference in the workplace

Fraserview is committed to being leaders in care, and one of the ways they are showcasing this is by acknowledging the staff who share their beliefs. Implemented back in November 2014, staff nominate coworkers who they see making a difference in the workplace. Fraserview was proud to award its 13 staff who were nominated for their performance in the begining of 2015. Small gifts of house-blend tea were donated by Boomerang LIFE as a token of gratitude.

Ever since we renovated and opened our new kitchen, we have been taking advantage of all the amazing appliances and space to make delicious treats. To get ready for the weekend, a group of our seniors decided to make some amazing cupcakes! Every cupcake was hand-decorated by these women, making them an extra special treat that some residents couldn’t resist!

Tips: Helping a Loved One with Dementia Adjust to Daylight Saving Time

Coreena Robertson, founder of Boomerang Life and Fraserview resident Alexandria Georgiou
The Daylight Saving Time switch has been blamed for many negative side effects in the population, from sleep deprivation and headaches, to lost productivity and a spike in traffic accidents. What many don’t realize is the profound effect that the time change has on Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers, for whom a regular schedule is critical to quality of life. The time change causes confusion and can increase behaviours known as “sundowning,” which includes acting out, general aggression, a tendency to wander away, and increased feelings of depression and anxiety.
